Neil Lennon admits Celtic might not be able to fight off big money bids for his stars because of the financial storm created by the coronavirus.
The Hoops boss is determined to keep his top assets such as Odsonne Edouard and Kristoffer Ajer and he revealed he’s delighted there has been no concrete interest in the pair yet.
But Lennon is aware the goalposts have been moved in the wake of the pandemic and although Celtic are in a strong position – it could be tough to knock back serious cash.
He said: “It is difficult to say, particularly in this climate currently, that a player is not going anywhere because everyone has a price.
“Ideally we don’t want to sell our best players and we will remain steadfast on that.
“But if an offer comes in then I’m sure the club will consider it and do the best thing possible for the club going forward.
“But it’s not just hard for me. It’s hard for all managers right now. It will be interesting to see how the market opens up.
“You just don’t know. The English Premier League is not finished yet but when they do they will be starting to look around.
“It might speed up before the new season starts but at the minute we have had no enquiries for any of our players. Nothing at all.”
Edouard is on the radar of several clubs in England, including Arsenal, while AC Milan are a long term admirer of Ajer.
But Lennon insisted the Italians had not made a move and he’s looking forward to seeing the defender and the rest of his squad tested by PSG in Paris tonight.
When asked about Ajer, he said: “There’s absolutely nothing in that at all. Nothing.
“Every single one of my players will be tested by PSG. I’m not singling out Kris.
“But there’s nothing in that whatsoever. He’s got a couple of years left on his contract and I want him here and the club wants him here.”
Lennon wants his star turns to stay – but he is also hoping to bolster his squad for the new campaign.
A new keeper could be on board by the end of the week with several other outfield targets being assessed.
Lennon is wary of the uncertainty surrounding the financial climate but he insisted chief exec Peter Lawwell hasn’t revealed any plans to slash his transfer kitty.
When asked about his summer war chest, the Hoops boss joked: “What budget?!
“I‘ve had no indication from Peter that the climate has changed. It’s business as usual as far as I am concerned.
“But I’m not close to anything. I’m spinning a few plates but there’s nothing concrete at the moment.
“There are a couple of positions that we are looking to strengthen.
“Goalkeeper is obviously one of them and we are working on a number of options. We are working on a number of options for other positions too.”
